New Arrivals

by Hajime 29. February 2008 03:09
Since our last entry, we have been frantically adding new CDs to our website. We can hardly keep up because there are so many interesting jazz CDs coming out of Japan. It’s hard work for us, but we are excited. We hope you’ll feel the same after reading this!

The Most Exciting New Release of the Month!

Chick Corea and Hiromi Uehara / Duet [2 CD]
Spontaneous improvisation and telepathic interaction between two, superbly talented pianists. Wow! This 2-CD set will be remembered as one of the best, if not the best, release of 2008!

Four New Releases from Spice of Life

Hitomi Nishiyama Trio / Many Seasons
A talented Japanese pianist's fresh trio with a Swedish rhythm section. Lyrical and driving!

The Real Group and Eric Ericson / Stämning

Young and intelligent Swedish pianist goes to Denmark and records a swinging trio date with Ed Thigpen and Jesper Bodilsen!

In the Spirit of Oscar / Easy Does It
The second CD by the super guitarist Ulf Wakenius and his Oscar Peterson tribute band is another swinging winner!

Two New Released from Birds Records

Super Trombone / Take The A Train - Plays Duke Ellington
Four superb trombone players including Jim Pugh, Dave Bargeron and Japanese star Eijiro Nakagawa play the dynamic arrangements of David Matthews with a rhythm section including Victor Lewis. Powerful stuff!

Manhattan Jazz Orchestra / In The Mood - Plays Glenn Miller
David Matthews and his all-star big band boldly reimagine the well-known melodies popularized by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra!

Two New Released from Venus Records

Ted Rosenthal Trio / My Funny Valentine
For his second release from Venus, pianist Rosenthal played standard songs strongly associated with Helen Merrill, whom he accompanied for more than 10 years. Another winner from Rosenthal with George Mraz and Al Foster!

Richie Beirach Trio / Summer Night
The latest reunion between Beirach, George Mraz and Billy Hart produced a very lively, vigorously swinging album. Should not be missed by fans of Richie Beirach!

Three Limited Edition CDs from Marshmallow Records

Only 1,000 copies printed for each title, and each copy is individually numbered. A collector's item! We only managed to secure just a few copies for each title, so order soon!

Zoot Sims / 5658
Previously unreleased private recordings of Zoot Sims from 1956 and 1958, with Jack Sheldon, Kenny Drew, Red Garland, Oscar Pettiford and Kenny Clarke!

First-time-on-CD reissue of a very rare LP, containing rare live performances by the elusive tenorman with Terry Gibbs and Howard McGhee! Recorded in 1951 and 1953.

Herbie Steward / One Morning In May
Previously unreleased recording by the last surviving member of the famous "Four Brothers," accompanied by Gene DiNovi. Recorded in Japan in 1992.

A New Release from Atelier Sawano

Kiyoshi Kitagawa Trio / Live In Japan
A bassist with big, soulful tone, Kitagawa took his colleagues Kenny Barron and Brian Blade to Japan and performed in front of an ecstatic audience. This is hot!

A New Release from SwingBros

The latest from the Japanese "contemporary swing" pianist is a joyful session with a drum-less trio, with Howard Alden on guitar and George Mraz on bass. Feel the joy!

A New Release from 55 Records
